Multicomponent fibers are formed by blending two or more polymers to form a discontinuous, highly dispersive phase. This phase forms elongated fibrillar domains that are oriented in the direction of the axis of the fiber.The titer of the resulting multi-component fiber is preferably in the range of 1.5 to 3.5 dtex. The titer is determined by the amount of compatibilizer added to the mixture.A nonwoven fabric with high extensibility is characterized by elongation at break between 80 to 150% of the titer.
